Abstract
In order to investigate the factors influencing toothbrush elasticity loss and utilize them as reference data of toothbrush production in the future, 180 toothbrushes out of 18 models (ten brushes for each model) were used for this examination among the toothbrushes for adults which have been distributed in the domestic market. In a rolling method and Bass method ,one-month, two-month, and three-month brushing were examined with Toothbrush Stroke Tester¢ç which was designed through the practice of brushing method. From the data, elasticity loss was measured. In the case of a rolling method, orthogonal regression was applied so as to discover the influence upon the elasticity loss of the number of tufts, the total number of tufts, the bristle diameter, the bristle length, and the bristle stiffness according to lateral shape of brushing plane. The results were as follows
1. Brushing in a rolling method, the elasticity loss according to the lateral shape of brushing plane appeared highest with tapered brushing plane, and with convex brushing plane and flat brushing plane in the order, according to type of tufts rows it appeared highest in the second and the fourth tufts rows, and the third and the fifth rows and the third row in the order, and according to bristle stiffness it appeared highest with hard bristles, and with medium bristle and soft bristle in the order (P (0.001).
2, In a rolling method with convex brushing plane, it was found that the more total number of tufts and the thicker bristle diameter, the lower the elasticity loss. It was also, found that the more the number of tufts, the longer the bristle length and the stronger the bristle stiffness, the higher the elasticity loss.
3. In a rolling method with flat brushing plane, it was discovered that the more the number of tufts and the total number of tuft, the longer the bristle length and the stronger the bristle stiffness, the higher the rate of elasticity loss(p (0.001). It was also discovered that in one-month brushing, the wider the bristle diameter, the lower the rate of elasticity loss. But it was found that the bristle diameter had no influence upon the elasticity loss in two- and three-month brushing.

4. The more the number of tufts and the total number of tufts and the wider the bristle diameter, the stronger the bristle stiffness of an important factor influencing wear index(P <0.05), however, the bristle length had no influence upon the bristle stiffness.
